SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFNS) — \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force <\/strong><\/span>JoAnne S. Bass<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong> encouraged Airmen to \u201cmake our Air Force better\u201d during a visit to <\/span>Sheppard <\/span>Air Force Base<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong>, <\/span>May 8-9.\u00a0
\u00a0
\u201cI need you to make a difference in your organization and make a difference in our Air Force,\u201d Bass<\/span> said. \u201cBe well aware of this time you\u2019re serving and make our Air Force better, especially in a time like this where we have a pacing challenge such as China. It\u2019s going to be you who helps us make sure that we\u2019re going to be the Air Force that our nation needs.\u201d\u00a0

Bass took the opportunity to address Sheppard<\/span> AFB\u2019s unique audience \u2013 Airmen in training. She urged them to stay focused and maintain their readiness and reiterated the need for continued investment in training and technology.\u00a0

After speaking at the Air Force\u2019s <\/strong><\/span>largest non-commissioned officer academy<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong>, Bass held a permanent party all-call where she emphasized priorities like pay and compensation, improvements to healthcare and recruiting and retaining our force.<\/span>\u00a0

\u201cWhen I look at those who have stripes on, we have the most educated and talented enlisted force in history,\u201d Bass<\/span> said. \u201cWe are pushing really hard for a targeted pay raise for the force.\u201d\u00a0

Bass then took questions from Airmen about uniform and grooming standards, the multi-capable airman concept and the Exceptional Family Member <\/strong><\/span>Program<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Throughout her visit, <\/span>Bass focused on the importance of beating our pacing threat in three warfighting domains of information, cyber and space.\u00a0

\u201cThere is a sense of urgency across the nation that I\u2019ve never seen before and it\u2019s focused on our pacing challenge<\/span>\u2013the most sophisticated nation that we have to contend with and that\u2019s China,\u201d Bass said. \u201cWe are focusing on the strong relationships that we have with our partner nations to be there for them and train alongside them, so that they know they can count on the United States.\u201d\u00a0

Bass spoke about seeing more change in the next four to six years than we\u2019ve seen in the last 30 years.<\/span>\u00a0

\u201cWhat got us here before is not going to be what gets us there in the future. That is what led Gen<\/span>eral Brown<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong> <\/strong>to pin his strategic approach of <\/strong><\/span>accelerate change or lose<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong>. \u201cWhile we appreciate the last <\/strong><\/span>75 years<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong> of being a dominant Air Force, a strong Air Force, that is not going to assure us victory and dominance into the future,\u201d Bass<\/span> said.\u00a0

Throughout her visit, she engaged with multiple squadrons and agencies across Sheppard <\/span>AFB to see firsthand how they\u2019re modernizing classrooms, improving the quality of training and impacting the lives of students.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
