{"id":144784,"date":"2024-04-07T18:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-07T18:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/?p=144784"},"modified":"2024-04-07T20:49:14","modified_gmt":"2024-04-07T20:49:14","slug":"last-roll-call-of-remembrance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/?p=144784","title":{"rendered":"Last Roll Call of Remembrance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the last Roll Call of Remembrance held mid-March at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/central-iowa-health-care\/\">Central Iowa VA<\/a>, Des Moines, approximately 65 attendees, family members, caregivers, friends and staff filed into the medical center auditorium to honor service members who passed away during the preceding three months.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Flags-and-table-settings_r1-2.jpg\"><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u201cRemembering them is the greatest affirmation we render.\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>They were joined by more than 800 who watched on video through social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are gathered to celebrate not so much the death but the life of your loved ones,\u201d said Chaplain L. Louise Bruce. \u201cThe brave men and women who served our nation in times of need. In remembering them today, it is the greatest affirmation that we render. In a time like this, our hearts are heavy, but we remember.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Remarks for the solemn event were provided by Brent Pharis, associate medical center director, and a tribute was provided by Tracie Pinkston, director of the Veterans Benefits Administration Regional Office.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bell struck for each branch of service<\/h2>\n<p>Additional remarks were provided by VA Chaplain Antonette Tom, Dr. Ann Touney, Chaplain Jonathan Whitfield and Chief Chaplain L. Louise Bruce. Musical selections were provided by Theresa Whitfield.
