(AFNS) &#8212; \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>The<strong> <\/strong><\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/minationalguard.dodlive.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>Michigan National Guard<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span> hosted members of Headquarters <\/span>U.S. Air Force and the Swedish air force at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/minationalguard.dodlive.mil\/NADWC-Installations\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>National All Domain Warfighting Center<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span> April 3-4, solidifying a significant step towards bolstering transatlantic military collaboration. This visit occurred just a month following Sweden&#8217;s accession into the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nato.int\/cps\/en\/natohq\/news_223446.htm?selectedLocale=en\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>North Atlantic Treaty Organization<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span><strong> <\/strong>March 7, marking a pivotal moment in the alliance&#8217;s expansion.<\/span>\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><span>During the visit to the<strong> <\/strong><\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alpenacrtc.ang.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span>, one of the sites which encompass the NADWC, <\/span>attendees received a comprehensive overview of the Michigan National Guard\u2019s Northern Strike exercise and NADWC\u2019s cutting-edge facilities. These exercises, conducted since 2011, provide a vital platform for international partners and allies to test personnel and equipment across a variety of geographies and in a multi-season environment.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span>The NADWC\u2019s terrain and climate <\/span>is similar to that of Northern Europe and is capable of hosting opportunities for fifth-generation fighters to train with allies, other aircraft, and service members on the ground. Several of Sweden\u2019s neighboring countries fly the<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/478441\/f-35a-lightning-ii\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>F-35 Lightning II<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span>, and training in the NADWC would offer annual opportunities for combined training in support of common defense security goals.<\/span>\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><span>&#8220;The new relationship between Michigan and Sweden&#8217;s air forces holds tremendous potential for enhancing our capabilities and readiness,&#8221; <\/span>said <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/minationalguard.dodlive.mil\/About-Us\/Leadership\/Article\/2553591\/major-general-paul-d-rogers\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Paul Rogers<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span>, the adjutant general of the MING. &#8220;By leveraging Sweden&#8217;s expertise and resources, we can significantly strengthen our collective defense posture.&#8221;<\/span>\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><span>Sweden&#8217;s primary fighter platform, the SAAB JAS 39 Gripen<\/span> aircraft, represents a cornerstone of its air force capabilities. While the Gripen serves as the backbone of Sweden&#8217;s aerial defense, the country is actively pursuing the transition to a next-generation fighter, underscoring its commitment to modernization.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><span>&#8220;The Swedish Air Force brings a wealth of experience and advanced capabilities to the table,&#8221; <\/span>said U.S. Air Force Col. Leah Voelker, 127th Air Refueling Group commander, Michigan Air National Guard. &#8220;Through this relationship, we have the opportunity to learn from their expertise and enhance our own training and operational effectiveness.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span>Sweden&#8217;s emphasis on <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.doctrine.af.mil\/Portals\/61\/documents\/AFDN_1-21\/AFDN%201-21%20ACE.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>agile combat employment<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span> further enhances the partnership&#8217;s significance. ACE, a strategic approach aimed at<\/span> maintaining operational unpredictability and flexibility, aligns closely with Michigan\u2019s innovative ACE training approach, advances NATO&#8217;s objectives, and underscores Sweden&#8217;s commitment to enhancing its rapid response capabilities.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><span>The MING\u2019s 127th Wing has been pushing the boundaries of training and operationalizing the concept of ACE over the last three years by landing A-10 Thunderbolt II<\/span> aircraft on highways around the world during exercises and quickly launching them back into the air. The 127th Wing\u2019s<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/1529736\/kc-135-stratotanker\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>KC-135 Stratotanker<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span><strong> <\/strong>airc<\/span>raft also validated ACE concepts while demonstrating specialized fuel operations, refueling, and defueling aircraft in tactical environments, known as \u201chot\u201d refueling and \u201cwet-wing\u201d defueling.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><span>&#8220;Sweden&#8217;s expertise in ACE complements our own efforts to adapt and innovate in an evolving security landscape,&#8221;\u00a0Voelker<\/span> said. &#8220;By incorporating their insights and best practices into our training regimen, we can better prepare for a wide range of contingencies and threats.&#8221;\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><span>Sweden&#8217;s proven<\/span> track record in conducting highway landings and takeoffs, as well as its deployment of mobile infrastructure, demonstrates its ability to swiftly deploy and operate from dispersed locations. This mobility-centric approach aligns closely with MING&#8217;s efforts to enhance its operational agility and responsiveness.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><span>Along with ACE concepts, the participants shared discussions on innovation and the importance of modernizing how the military answers global challenges.<\/span>\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><span>\u201cWe must extend innovation activities to allies and NATO partners such as this event with our Swedish guests,\u201d said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. David Brewer<\/span>, Kelly Johnson Joint All Domain Innovation Center representative and Air Force Futures innovation officer. \u201cIntellectual sharing between the MING and our new NATO partner can help identify requirements and innovative approaches to technology adoption in defense activities.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>    <!--image-->\n    <\/p>\n<p><!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/><span>The alliance between the MING and the Swedish Air Force<\/span> represents a significant stride towards enhancing transatlantic military cooperation and readiness.
