WIESBADEN, Germany \u2013 This year, at the 63rd annual Installation Management Command \u2013 Europe Entertainment Tournament of Plays, TOPPERs, three cast members of the Vicenza\u2019 Soldiers\u2019 Theatre production, \u201cWorking: A Musical\u201d performed the opening number of the second act, as part of several live performances at the annual awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is my first time at the TOPPERs and my first time performing, and it\u2019s so exciting,\u201d said LaQuita Deans, who played Maggie Holmes in the musical.<\/p>\n

Deans along with Courtney Shanahan and Lt. Col. Leah Sanchez presented \u201cCleanin\u2019 Women\u201d in front of almost 600 people attending the event at the Wiesbaden Fitness Center on Clay Kaserne April 27.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know what to expect and it has truly blown my mind to see the caliber of the show and everything they put forth,\u201d Deans said. \u201cWe had a large group from Vicenza, all coming to support the theatre.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deans, Shanahan and Sanchez were some of the 35 people from Vicenza, who included other cast members, crew, leaders, and family members according to Soldiers\u2019 Theatre Director Jerry Brees.<\/p>\n

Vicenza was honored with 19 nominations and six awards.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been a great night,\u201d said Brees at the end of the event. \u201cOur theatre is really excited to be part of the TOPPER Awards, and to win six awards this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of them is really a special award for the whole theatre group.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Best Ensemble in a Musical\u2019 means the most to us,\u201d continued Brees, \u201cbecause everybody in our cast works so closely together and we are truly a theatre family, and that\u2019s why we are so thrilled to have the best ensemble.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the gala, 50 TOPPERs were presented to winners of the 15 shows that were produced in eight military communities across Germany, Belgium and Italy through April 2024.<\/p>\n

Special thanks were given during the ceremony introduction by Tommy Mize, the IMCOM-E Director and host of the celebration, who highlighted \u201cthe thousands of Soldiers, civilians and family members who provide hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours putting on live theatre events throughout our overseas communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to the technical and performance categories awards, adjudicators also assigned three Special Judges\u2019 Choice Awards.<\/p>\n

One of them was awarded to \u2018Original Monologue Writing\u2019 for \u201cWorking\u201d to Jessica Henninger and Martin Sinlao.<\/p>\n

Henninger wrote the monologue of a Nurse for the Soldiers\u2019 Theatre musical production.<\/p>\n

She was deeply touched for the recognition, which refers to taking care of COVID-19 patients.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s exciting, I am happy, but it\u2019s too emotional,\u201d she said while holding the trophy. \u201cIt\u2019s about such a personal time in my life that affected me really deeply.\u201d<\/p>\n
