(AFNS) &#8212; \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Department of the Air Force selected <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moody.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Moody Air Force Base<\/strong><\/a>, Georgia, as the preferred location to receive the next active-duty <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/478441\/f-35a-lightning-ii\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>F-35A Lightning II<\/strong><\/a> mission.<\/p>\n<p>The two squadrons of F-35As are projected to begin arriving in FY27 and are anticipated to require an increase in approximately 500 personnel.<\/p>\n<p>The F-35A brings an enhanced capability to survive in the advanced threat environment in which it was designed to operate. With its aerodynamic performance and advanced integrated avionics, the F-35A provides next-generation stealth, enhanced situational awareness and reduced vulnerability.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to host the F-35 mission at Moody AFB came after assessing the area\u2019s ability to facilitate the mission and infrastructure capacity, while accounting for community support, environmental factors and cost.<\/p>\n<p>The Fiscal Year 2024 Program Objective Memorandum <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/Releases\/Release\/Article\/3326875\/department-of-defense-releases-the-presidents-fiscal-year-2024-defense-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>details<\/strong><\/a> department plans to retire 54 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/104490\/a-10c-thunderbolt-ii\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>A-10 Thunderbolt II<\/strong><\/a>s. If approved, six A-10s will be divested out of Moody AFB in FY24 with the remaining A-10s divesting by FY28.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of the Air Force will now conduct an environmental impact analysis, which is expected to be completed in fall 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ARLINGTON, Va.
