President Joe Biden has said the United States was \u201cnot involved\u201d in the short mercenary uprising in Russia<\/a>, but Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Alabama, claims otherwise.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Biden said we\u2019re not involved in that, which is probably the biggest lie you can tell,\u201d Tuberville said Tuesday on an Alabama talk radio show. \u201cThere\u2019s no way we\u2019re not involved in it to some degree with our CIA.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not clear whether the senator was simply speculating or had received additional information from intelligence briefings. His office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.<\/p>\n

According to news reports, U.S. officials were in frequent contact with Russia<\/a> over the tumultuous weekend but stressed that they saw the issue as an internal dispute.<\/p>\n

Tuberville said he thought the U.S. should be more involved in working with Ukraine and Russia to resolve the conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cBiden should be on the phone every day talking to Putin and Zelensky,\u201d he said, naming the leaders of the two countries. \u201cIt just amazes me how little input the White House has had over the past year. There have been hundreds of thousands of people killed. It\u2019s just been devastating.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re over there doing things we shouldn\u2019t be doing, spending money we shouldn\u2019t be spending.\u201d<\/p>\n

The United States just announced a new $500 million package<\/a> in military aid for Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Tuberville also said he will continue to push Alabama\u2019s request to house Space Command headquarters<\/a> and to block military promotions in protest of the Department of Defense\u2019s abortion policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n
