{"id":16919,"date":"2023-06-28T20:11:00","date_gmt":"2023-06-28T20:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/?p=16919"},"modified":"2023-06-29T06:42:04","modified_gmt":"2023-06-29T06:42:04","slug":"time-flies-marking-100-years-of-aerial-refueling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/?p=16919","title":{"rendered":"Time Flies: Marking 100 Years of Aerial Refueling"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><\/div>\n<p>\n    The Air Force marked the 100-year anniversary of the first aerial refueling with flyovers across all 50 states, honoring the aviators who pulled off the seemingly impossible in 1923 and celebrating the promise of current and future airmen.\n<\/p>\n<p>Aerial refueling has brought global capabilities to U.S forces, allowing increased range, flexibility and lethality for combat aircraft, but in the early years of the 20th century, the notion\u00a0was still\u00a0a dream.\n<\/p>\n<p>But on June\u00a0 27, 1923 \u2014 just 20 years after the Wright brothers&#8217; first flight\u00a0\u2014 Army Air Service 1st Lts. Virgil Hine and Frank W. Seifert\u00a0passed gasoline from their aircraft through a gravity hose to another plane flying\u00a0beneath it piloted by Capt.\u00a0Lowell H. Smith and 1st Lt. John P.
