ARLINGTON, Va. (AFNS) — \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Jr.<\/strong><\/a> hosted the Chief of the Romanian Air Force Staff Lt. Gen. Viorel Pan\u0103 for an official counterpart visit June 26 through 30. The visit recognized Romania as a valued NATO ally and advanced the strong and enduring bilateral defense relationship. <\/p>\n

As part of the visit, Pan\u0103 received a full honors arrival and was awarded a Legion of Merit<\/strong><\/a> at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling<\/strong><\/a> June 27. Pan\u0103 attended both an office call and staff talks with Brown at the Pentagon and later participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier<\/strong><\/a> at Arlington National Cemetery<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

During their office call, Brown commended Romania for its vital contributions to European security, highlighting Romanian Air Force support to NATO\u2019s Baltic Air Policing mission<\/strong><\/a> as an example of alliance solidarity in action.<\/p>\n

The leaders also exchanged perspectives on Black Sea security and impacts to the region from Russia\u2019s brutal war of choice against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to thank Lt. Gen. Pan\u0103 and the Romanian Air Force for their continued leadership role in the Black Sea area, and Romania as a whole for hosting thousands of U.S. and allied forces to bolster and defend NATO\u2019s eastern flank,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n

U.S. Air Force Logo<\/title><\/p><\/div>\n<\/section><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The two sides further discussed Romanian Air Force modernization efforts, including its growing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/104505\/f-16-fighting-falcon\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>F-16 Fighting Falcon<\/strong><\/a> fleet and intent to acquire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/478441\/f-35a-lightning-ii\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>F-35 Lightning II<\/strong><\/a> fighter aircraft, as well as future opportunities to increase cooperation and interoperability.<\/p>\n<p>The office call was followed by staff talks to discuss matters of mutual importance. Topics included Black Sea security dynamics, force modernization, and integrating fourth and fifth-generation aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his engagements in the national capital region, Pan\u0103 visited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheppard.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Sheppard Air Force Base<\/strong><\/a>, Texas, for activities centered on Romania\u2019s ongoing participation in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheppard.af.mil\/Library\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/367537\/euro-nato-joint-jet-pilot-training-program-enjjpt\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program<\/strong><\/a>. He also visited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maxwell.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Maxwell Air Force Base<\/strong><\/a>, Alabama, to visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airuniversity.af.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Air University<\/strong><\/a> for a series of briefings and meetings regarding AU capabilities and enlisted development. Pan\u0103 is a member of the university\u2019s International Honor Roll having graduated from Squadron Officer School in 1996.<\/p>\n<p> <!--image-->\n <\/p>\n<p><!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p>Pan\u0103 also visited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.187fw.ang.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Dannelly Field<\/strong><\/a>, Alabama, and the 187th Fighter Wing. Romania began its now 30-year connection with the <a href=\"https:\/\/al.ng.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Alabama National Guard<\/strong><\/a> under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalguard.mil\/leadership\/joint-staff\/j-5\/international-affairs-division\/state-partnership-program\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>State Partnership Program<\/strong><\/a> in 1993.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe future of global security is partnership, connectedness, and interoperability,\u201d said Adjutant General of the Alabama National Guard U.S. Army <a href=\"https:\/\/al.ng.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Bio-Article-View\/Article\/2705712\/maj-gen-sheryl-e-gordon\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Maj. Gen. Sheryl Gordon<\/strong><\/a>, \u201cand this month marks three decades of Alabama Airmen working alongside Romanian partners toward that goal.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlabama\u2019s 187th Fighter Wing has flown F-16 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/1529736\/kc-135-stratotanker\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>KC-135 [Stratotankers]<\/strong><\/a> training sorties side-by-side with the Romanian Air Force and we look forward to future advanced training opportunities as Romania continues its defense modernization program.
