{"id":172217,"date":"2024-05-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/?p=172217"},"modified":"2024-05-09T21:37:06","modified_gmt":"2024-05-09T21:37:06","slug":"afimsc-focuses-i-weptac-topics-on-gpc-solutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/?p=172217","title":{"rendered":"AFIMSC focuses I-WEPTAC topics on GPC solutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><\/div>\n<p><strong class=\"article-detail-dateline\">JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas (AFNS) &#8212; \u00a0<\/strong><!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p>The first of two 2024 Installation and Mission Support Weapons and Tactics Conferences concluded May 8 at the<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afimsc.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\">Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center<\/a><\/strong> in San Antonio, when three teams presented solutions to advance agile combat support operations in an era of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/reoptimization-for-great-power-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\">Great Power Competition<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The I-WEPTAC 2024.1 Mission Area Working Groups briefed ideas for integrating combat support and combat service support capabilities to reshape, refocus and reoptimize the Department of the Air Force in these topic areas:<\/p>\n<p>MAWG 1: Capabilities Within a Base Command \u2013 How to source the CS and CSS Airmen needed to stand up the proposed GPC units of action and the appropriate levels of support required at the installation given personnel and fiscal constraints.<\/p>\n<p>MAWG 2: Creation of Cross-Functional Air Base Tactics Instructors \u2013 Build trusted advisors to help commanders achieve mission objectives and train cross-functional air base tactics instructors who will build, teach and lead combat support warfighters.<\/p>\n<p>MAWG 3: Resilience and Base Recovery After Attack in an Agile Combat Employment Environment \u2013 How CS and CSS Airmen will recover a base after attack and the innovative ways to ensure combat resilience in an austere environment with minimal airlift and equipment support.<\/p>\n<p>AFIMSC developed I-WEPTAC in 2017 and has hosted the conference ever since to provide a platform for I&amp;MS Airmen and Guardians to engage in innovation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have dedicated this particular I-WEPTAC to attributes of the hard GPC problems we\u2019re working on right now,\u201d said <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Display\/Article\/1576683\/john-j-allen-jr\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maj. Gen. John Allen<\/a><\/strong>, AFIMSC commander. \u201cSince I-WEPTAC is an Air Force innovation forum that takes on challenges facing installation and mission support agile combat support operations, it\u2019s the right platform for us to address GPC priorities. We\u2019re leveraging the innovative thought, expertise and \u2018group-think\u2019 of Airmen who conduct I&amp;MS operations daily in order to harness that into actionable tactics, techniques and procedures we can field quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Through collaborative efforts within cross-functional teams, participants tackle ACE challenges with a focus on enhancing personnel development, readiness, power projection and capability development. This involves thorough examination and crafting of strategic courses of action.<\/p>\n<p><!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p>Maj. Conor Favo, Transportation Working Capital Fund program manager for AFIMSC Detachment 9 at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, and chair for MAWG 1, said his team\u2019s efforts have been the same as previous MAWGs: developing combat support solutions to advance airpower. Therefore, the GPC focus was not a stretch for what the conference had been accomplishing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis MAWG is a driving force to represent the installation and mission support elements that are underway across the Air Force enterprise. It is a critical effort we wanted to continue with I-WEPTAC 2024.1,\u201d Favo said.<\/p>\n<p>MAWG 2 focused on developing Airmen with the right expertise.<\/p>\n<p>    <!--image-->\n    <\/p>\n<p><!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cCombat support Airmen play a pivotal role in providing essential support functions such as logistics, intelligence, communications and security,\u201d said Maj. Richard Cordova, MAWG 2 chair and chief of the Air Force Security Forces Center\u2019s Air Force Mission Assurance Team. \u201cBy establishing these roles, we can align our capabilities within the operations community to ensure better coordination, resource allocation and synchronization of efforts to enhance overall operational effectiveness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MAWG 3 dealt exclusively with base resilience and recovery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCivil engineers are critical to the establishment and sustainment of air bases in any environment or conflict,\u201d said Maj. Robin Walton, deputy branch chief for the Air Force Civil Engineer Center\u2019s Facility Sustainment, Restoration and Modernization Program and MAWG 3 chair. \u201cAs we examine our various mission sets, we must continue to refine how we bed down, protect and sustain our forces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Display\/Article\/3536544\/david-c-epperson\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brig. Gen. David Epperson<\/a><\/strong>, director of current operations in the Air Force office of the deputy chief of staff for Operations, expressed his appreciation for all parties involved, specifically for this year\u2019s I-WEPTAC team members who helped provide solutions to complicated issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to say thank you to all the MAWG participants,\u201d Epperson said. \u201cI was first out here a year ago as we were starting to look at Air Task Force and Unit of Action, and I couldn\u2019t have asked for better support from this team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than 70 military and civilian Airmen and Guardians from a broad cross-section of functional specialties comprised the three MAWGs at the conference.
