WAHIAW\u0100, HAWAI\u02bbI \u2014 Sgt. Riley Bonaventura, a military police officer with the U.S. Army 8th Military Police Brigade at Schofield Barracks, was awarded Outstanding First Responder of the Year at the Wahiaw\u0101 Lions Club’s 40th annual awards ceremony on May 15, 2024. The event, held at the Mango Street Grill’s Central O\u02bbahu Event Center, celebrated the exceptional service and dedication of local heroes, including public safety officers and other first responders.<\/p>\n

For over 70 years, the Wahiaw\u0101 Lions Club has been committed to enhancing the lives of Wahiaw\u0101 residents. This year, they honored six remarkable individuals for their exemplary service, moral character, and unwavering dedication to their community. Each awardee received a Hawai\u02bbi Plaque and a City Council Honorary Certificate, presented by City Councilman Matt Weyer.<\/p>\n

Sgt. Bonaventura was recognized for his outstanding moral character, courage, resilience, and proactive initiatives. His dedication and helpfulness have established him as a model soldier of selflessness and bravery, reflecting the highest standards of the U.S. Army.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Army in Hawai\u02bbi plays a vital role in fostering strong relationships with local communities, acting as a key community relations partner. Rene Mansho, a representative of the Wahiaw\u0101 Lions Club, expressed deep appreciation for the local heroes. “For four decades, our service club has recognized the valor and dedication of our local first responders. This year, we included military police officers, lifeguards, and emergency management personnel. We aim to express our gratitude to those who significantly contribute to our local community.”<\/p>\n
