(AFNS) &#8212; \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span>Following its formal unveiling, Dec. 2, 2022, the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/2682973\/b-21-raider\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>B-21 Raider<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span><strong> <\/strong>began flight testing <\/span>at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edwards.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>Edward<\/span><span>s Air Force Base<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span><strong> <\/strong>where it continues to make progress toward becoming the backbone of the U.S. Air Force bomber fleet.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>D<\/span>uring testimony at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.armed-services.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>Senate Armed Services <\/span><span>C<\/span><span>ommittee<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span>, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Display\/Article\/3154079\/hon-andrew-p-hunter\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>Andrew Hunter<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span>, <\/span>assistant secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, highlighted B-21 flight testing is on track to meet timelines and deliver to the warfighter May 8.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u201cWe are in the flight test program, the flight test program is proceeding well,\u201d Hunter <\/span>said in response to a question about the B-21 program. \u201cIt is doing what flight test programs are designed to do, which is helping us learn about the unique characteristics of this platform, but in a very, very effective way.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>Hunter explained this is the first <\/span>aircraft that is more digital than not, which contributes to the program meeting requirements.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>The B-21 is a long-range, highly survivable, penetrating strike stealth bomber that will incrementally replace the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/104500\/b-1b-lancer\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>B-1<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span><strong> <\/strong>and <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/104482\/b-2-spirit\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>B-2<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span><strong> <\/strong>bombers and will play <\/span>a major role supporting national security objectives and assuring U.S. allies and partners across the globe.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>The B-21 weapon system is manufactured under the Air Force&#8217;s contract with Northrop Grumman. It is designed with an open systems architecture, enabling rapid insertion of mature technologies, and allowing the <\/span>aircraft to remain effective as threats evolve over time. The aircraft is expected to enter service in the mid-2020s with a production goal of a minimum of 100 aircraft.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>The <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/2424302\/rapid-capabilities-office\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span> manages the acquisition program, focusing on making test <\/span>aircraft as production representative as possible. Test aircraft are built on the same manufacturing line and use the same manning and tooling that will be used in the eventual production.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>The AFRCO\u2019s strategy includes building test <\/span>aircraft as production-representative as possible. Rather than a traditional flight prototype approach, B-21 test aircraft are built including mission systems using the same manufacturing processes and tooling for production aircraft. This approach in development laid the groundwork for production to start more quickly.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>When the B-21 enters the service, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ellsworth.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>Ellsworth A<\/span><span>FB<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span>, South Dakota, will be the first B-21 main operating base and location of the <\/span>formal training unit. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whiteman.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>Whiteman AFB<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span>, Missouri, and <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dyess.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span>Dyess AFB<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/strong><span>, Texas, are the preferred locations for the remaining bases and will receive <\/span>aircraft as they become available.\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"ast-split ntext breakout \">\n<div class=\"item\">\n<div class=\"body\">\n<section class=\"ast-brandedhr\">\n<div class=\"ast-brandedhr-line\">\n<p>                <title>U.S. Air Force Logo<\/title><\/p><\/div>\n<\/section><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u00a0\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif.
