(AFNS) &#8212; \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Almost 2,000 aerospace representatives and defense officials recently gathered near <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tinker.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tinker Air Force Base<\/a><\/strong> at the Reed Center at Delta Hotels for the 17th annual Tinker and the Primes conference.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>The conference was hosted by the Midwest City Chamber of Commerce and provided the opportunity for prime and secondary contractors, government agencies, academic institutions and small businesses to come together to discuss how they can help sustain America\u2019s ability to generate airpower.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Air Force keynote speakers at the conference spoke about competition with China, the importance of supply chain management, enterprise digital dominance as well as updates on Tinker AFB\u2019s growing missions.<\/p>\n<p>    <!--image-->\n    <\/p>\n<p><!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe thing we have to get used to in general is that we\u2019re now living in a world in which we have a true competitor who is challenging us,\u201d said Secretary of the Air Force <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Display\/Article\/2730581\/secretary-of-the-air-force-frank-kendall\/\" target=\"_blank\">Frank Kendall<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cI spent 20 years worrying about the Soviet Union; they were a significant and real threat, and they were a serious adversary. China is more formidable to me by far than the Soviet Union ever was. They\u2019ve got better resources, they\u2019re more open-minded about buying technology, they\u2019ve got much better manufacturing capability and they\u2019re being very aggressive and single-minded about pursuing things that are very thoughtful and designed to defeat our ability to project power.\u201d\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Kendall detailed his <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/Portals\/1\/documents\/2023SAF\/OPERATIONAL_IMPARITIVES_INFOGRAPHIC.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Seven Operational Imperatives<\/a><\/strong>, stating that they are things that must be done to be successful operationally when projecting power. Several of his imperatives have a direct tie to missions carried out by Tinker AFB units.\u00a0<br \/><!--image--><br \/>\n    <!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>Commander of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.afmc.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\">Air Force Materiel Command<\/a><\/strong> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Display\/Article\/466944\/duke-z-richardson\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gen. Duke Z. Richardson<\/a><\/strong>, then spoke about AFMC\u2019s approach to accelerating the acquisition materiel lifecycle, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.afmc.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/3423259\/afmc-releases-white-paper-on-digital-materiel-management\/\" target=\"_blank\">Digital Materiel Management<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>\u201cWe take what\u2019s gone on in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/3399524\/air-force-solicits-source-selection-proposals-for-ngad-platform\/\" target=\"_blank\">NGAD<\/a><\/strong> [Next Generation Air Dominance], <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/2682973\/b-21-raider\/\" target=\"_blank\">B-21<\/a><\/strong> [Raider], <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.afgsc.af.mil\/Sentinel-GBSD\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sentinel<\/a><\/strong>, to varying degrees and we try to see if we can scale it and turn it into what we call an enterprise solution,\u201d Richardson said.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Richardson added, \u201cThis concept of One Team, One Fight that the secretary <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/Portals\/1\/documents\/2023SAF\/PolicyUpdates\/One_Team_One_Fight_One_Year_Later_01_Aug_22.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">talks about<\/a><\/strong>, we are really trying to implement that inside Air Force Materiel Command.\u201d\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Richardson detailed the DMM\u2019s six levers: instilling a digital-first culture, developing digital strategies, structuring and securing data, DMM tools access, training a digital workforce and modernizing IT infrastructure.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.afsc.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\">Air Force Sustainment Center<\/a><\/strong> Commander <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Display\/Article\/614073\/stacey-t-hawkins\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lt. Gen. Stacey Hawkins<\/a><\/strong> spoke about the importance of people and recruiting to the center.\u00a0<br \/><!--image--><br \/>\n    <!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\u201cWithout the people of the Air Force Sustainment Center, producing to promise doesn&#8217;t happen,\u201d Hawkins said. \u201cOur people govern and execute our processes. And our ability to attract, recruit and retain the next generation of people to carry us forward is going to be vital to our existence.\u201d\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Hawkins added, \u201cIf you&#8217;re playing at an elite level, you are starting to recruit kids as early as junior high school. That&#8217;s what we&#8217;re going to have to do, particularly as we&#8217;re looking at what our software workforce needs to be in the future. We have depended on the product and the output of universities producing software engineers for many years. We have a requirement to hire every single software engineer that graduates from the state of Oklahoma.\u201d\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tinker.af.mil\/About-Tinker\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/384764\/oklahoma-city-air-logistics-complex\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex<\/a><\/strong> Commander <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.afsc.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Article\/3451713\/brian-r-moore\/\" target=\"_blank\">Col.
