WIESBADEN, Germany – Community members joined in welcoming a new MWR grab-and-go food and beverage option on Aug. 22 during the Grand Opening of Fish and Chips on Wiesbaden\u2019s Clay Kaserne.<\/p>\n

Free samples, an MWR giveaway, cake cutting and official ribbon cutting by the U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden command team marked the occasion.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s one of a kind,\u201d said members of MWR\u2019s Business Operations Division in describing the new facility.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to have something different for folks to grab and go,\u201d said BOD Chief Mark Smith. \u201cWe knew it would be something unique here in U.S. Army Europe. Our aim is to provide more service options to our community. \u2026 We\u2019re truly excited about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has been a long time coming,\u201d said U.S. Army Garrison Commander Col. David Mayfield during opening remarks. \u201cMy hats off to our MWR, Directorate of Public Works, Directorate of Emergency Services and the staff of Fish and Chips for making this happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really grateful and thankful that the command was here and that MWR supported me in this journey,\u201d said Fish and Chip\u2019s Manager Colin Johnson.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a kid I always had a good taste for well-seasoned food and always wished to have my own sort of five-star restaurant,\u201d Johnson said, explaining that he previously operated Johnson\u2019s Coffee Break in Wiesbaden for five years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had fish and chips at home,\u201d said the Nigerian native who lived in New York for 14 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI appreciate the opportunity to serve this community,\u201d he said, adding that customer satisfaction is important to him and he remains flexible to listen to his customers and to try different menu options. Among those suggestions is possibly offering fish breakfast sandwiches in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s awesome, said Sgt. 1st Class Kaven Her of the 2nd Multi-Domain Task Force, who was on hand for the Grand Opening. \u201cI\u2019ve been here for a year \u2013 I heard about it \u2013 my wife was the one who found it. This was the first time we tried it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Located in Building 1011 (the same building as the Little Italy Restaurant and Catering Center) on Clay Kaserne, Fish and Chips is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It offers hot drinks and pastries from 8-11 a.m. and then switches to the lunch fish-and-chips options from 11 a.m. until closing.<\/p>\n

Menu items include: Fried Shrimp, Cod, Flat Fish, Salmon, Fried King Prawn, Cod or Salmon Nuggets, Calamari Rings, Chips, Salads, Various Cold and Hot Drinks, and Desserts. Customers can visit https:\/\/wiesbaden.armymwr.com\/programs\/fish-and-chips<\/a> to view the menu and to place orders in advance.<\/p>\n
