The scenario was to transport severely wounded and sick personnel from the training site to the U.S. Navy\u2019s nearby Naval Air Facility Atsugi.<br \/>\n                <span class=\"caption-author\"> (Photo Credit: Noriko Kudo, U.S. Army Garrison Japan Public Affairs)<\/span><br \/>\n              <\/span><br \/>\n              <a href=\"https:\/\/api.army.mil\/e2\/c\/images\/2023\/09\/10\/6e75d49e\/original.jpg\" title=\"View original\" target=\"_blank\">VIEW ORIGINAL<\/a><br \/>\n            <\/span><br \/>\n          <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Sagamihara City Vice Mayor Asana Ohkawa said the city hosted this year\u2019s drill to raise awareness of the importance of disaster prevention and to strengthen the cooperation between approximately 140 agencies and organizations that are regularly involved in that effort.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think today\u2019s drill was important,\u201d Ohkawa said. \u201cTraining together will help ensure the prompt and smooth implementation of emergency disaster response measures in cooperation and collaboration with disaster prevention agencies in the event of a large-scale earthquake disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DES and USAABJ teams faced a scenario in which they former had to rescue people from a collapsed building and transport them to established first-aid stations and the latter had to transport those who were severely wounded or sick from the training site to the U.S. Navy\u2019s nearby Naval Air Facility Atsugi.<\/p>\n<p>It can sometimes be challenging to coordinate joint training with other organizations and agencies because of things like planning and scheduling conflicts, one DES participant said, which is why events like the Sagamihara City drill are so valuable because they help to fill in training gaps and prepare all the first responders to be more ready in the event of a disaster.<\/p>\n<div class=\"editor-image single\">\n<figure class=\"photo cur-photo\">\n          <span class=\"centered-image\"><br \/>\n            <span class=\"img-container\"><br \/>\n              <a class=\"rich-text-img-link\" href=\"https:\/\/api.army.mil\/e2\/c\/images\/2023\/09\/10\/c2a02c24\/original.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"USAG Japan, Sagamihara, neighboring cities train together in joint disaster drill\" src=\"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/size0-full-93.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n              <\/a><br \/>\n                          <\/span><br \/>\n          <\/span><figcaption>\n                        <span class=\"image-caption\"><br \/>\n              <span class=\"caption-text\"><br \/>\n                Col. Marcus Hunter, commander of USAG Japan, observed the drill and spoke during the closing ceremony following remarks from Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
