Air Force pararescuemen, also known as “PJs,” recently put their skills to the test during a biennial competition \u2014 the PJ Rodeo \u2014 in Louisville, Ky.<\/p>\n

During the\u00a0event, airmen demonstrated skills in precision parachuting, marksmanship, technical rescue and tactical medicine. They also competed\u00a0in\u00a0a series of physical and mental challenges called a “monster mash.”<\/p>\n

This year, the contest\u00a0was hosted by\u00a0the Kentucky Air National Guard’s 123rd Special Tactics Squadron.<\/p>\n

Pararescuemen are the only Defense Department elite combat force<\/a> trained and equipped to conduct full spectrum\u00a0personnel recovery.<\/p>\n

Their mission is to rescue, recover\u00a0and return American or allied forces in times of danger or extreme duress.<\/p>\n
