MAPUTO, Mozambique \u2014 U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), engaged in a significant professional military exchange with the For\u00e7as Armadas de Defesa de Mo\u00e7ambique<\/a> (FADM) from Sept. 2-6. The exchange underscored the strengthening military cooperation between the United States and Mozambique, focusing on the crucial areas of public affairs and crisis communication.<\/p>\n

This exchange was part of a broader effort to bolster mutual understanding and operational collaboration between the two countries, which have seen increasing interactions due to shared security concerns and strategic interests in promoting peace and stability in Southern Africa.<\/p>\n

“The importance of robust communication strategies in military operations cannot be overstated,” said U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Celesse Hidrovo-Guidry, chief, Office of Security Cooperation, U.S. Embassy – Maputo<\/a>. “This exchange serves as a vital platform to align our public affairs efforts, ensuring both nations can effectively manage information and engage with the public and media during times of crisis.”<\/p>\n

Throughout the week, participants discussed the fundamentals of the U.S. Army\u2019s public affairs tactics, crisis communication frameworks and the impact of strategic messaging on military and civilian perceptions. The FADM shared insights into their public affairs challenges and successes, fostering a rich dialogue on enhancing media relations and public communication.<\/p>\n

“Exploring each other\u2019s public affairs frameworks enriches our understanding and strengthens our approach to international military cooperation,” said FADM Maj. Rosa da Concei\u00e7\u00e3o Chambisse. “Such interactions are invaluable as they enhance our ability to work together and learn from one another seamlessly.”<\/p>\n

Other topics focused on real-world scenarios, with both teams analyzing case studies that showcased how effective communication can influence outcomes in military operations. These practical exercises highlighted the significance of transparency and timely information dissemination, which are critical in maintaining operational security and public trust.<\/p>\n

“We are thankful for our hosts and the opportunity to learn from our Mozambican counterparts,” said U.S. Army Maj.
