NASHVILLE, Tenn. \u2013 Soldiers from the Tennessee Army National Guard\u2019s logistics staff and the 230th Sustainment Brigade welcomed their Bulgarian counterparts for a week-long exchange to enhance joint training and international military collaboration.<\/p>\n

This initiative, known as Old Hickory Sustainment University, emphasizes internal audits within the brigade\u2019s battalions to improve accountability and readiness.<\/p>\n

The training Sept. 16-19 included discussions and visits to Tennessee training facilities. Bulgarian Soldiers participated in briefings, observed training exercises, and engaged in hands-on demonstrations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis engagement is designed to enhance our understanding of the Tennessee Army National Guard\u2019s logistics capabilities in relation to the Bulgarian Logistics Command,\u201d said Tennessee Army National Guard Logistics Sgt. Major Kelly Whitley. \u201cThe 230th Sustainment Brigade is crucial to this effort due to our aligned capabilities, and we seek to foster partnerships with Bulgarian Logistics Command senior leaders through the Institute for Security Governance\u2019s Theater Logistics Readiness Program.\u201d<\/p>\n

As part of the National Guard Bureau\u2019s State Partnership Program, this engagement sought to enhance operational capabilities and reinforce collaboration with the Bulgarian Logistics Command. Discussions centered on best practices in maintenance and logistics strategies critical for NATO operations.<\/p>\n

The partnership has been fruitful, with previous interactions between the Tennessee Army National Guard and Bulgarian forces strengthening ties over the past three decades.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur State Partnership Program fosters collaboration and knowledge exchange,\u201d stated Tennessee Air National Guard Maj. Myyah Lockhart, State Partnership Program director. \u201cThis exchange focused on logistics forecasting and maintenance services, allowing our staff to gain insights from our Bulgarian counterparts.\u201d<\/p>\n

This program is essential to enhance military efficiency and promote cooperation between the two nations.<\/p>\n
