{"id":29192,"date":"2023-09-28T18:30:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-28T18:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/?p=29192"},"modified":"2023-09-29T06:41:55","modified_gmt":"2023-09-29T06:41:55","slug":"running-and-walking-for-suicide-prevention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/?p=29192","title":{"rendered":"Running and walking for suicide prevention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over 300 people came together on a beautiful morning at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/battle-creek-health-care\/\">Battle Creek VA<\/a> for the 11th annual Alive and Running VA5K Run\/Walk for Suicide Prevention Awareness Sept. 16. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The event was organized to remind the community and fellow Veterans that they can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/REACH\/about\/\">Reach Out<\/a> to help prevent suicide and to show Veterans, their families and the military community that they are not alone.<\/p>\n<p>Like many events during the pandemic, the VA5K was conducted virtually. Last year was the first year back and the event has grown substantially this year. The event brings the local community together to get resources and information.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Walkers-with-dog_r1-2.jpg\"><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u201cIt shows them we are there for them.\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cSometimes, it\u2019s okay to not be okay.\u201d<strong> \u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It also serves as a reminder to Veterans during Suicide Prevention Month. \u201cIt shows we are there for them,\u201d said Kelly Masley, suicide prevention coordinator. \u201cVeterans need to know that sometimes it\u2019s okay to not be okay.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The event was supported by community partners, including Gryphon Place, Calhoun County Suicide Prevention Coalition and Summit Pointe. \u201cVA takes a public health approach to suicide prevention,\u201d said Michelle Martin, Battle Creek VA director. \u201cIt is great to see so many people out here to support this cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Everyone can make a difference in the life of a Veteran. You do not need to be a professional to reach out.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/REACH\/about\/\">Reach Out<\/a> campaign is designed to bring attention and support that one small act could save the life of a Veteran or service member in crisis. This small act is a phone call to the Veterans Crisis line, dialing 988 and pressing 1.<\/p>\n<p>You can help by helping <a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/REACH\/spread-the-word\/\">spread the word<\/a> on social media and sharing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/REACH\/\">resources for Veterans<\/a> throughout the year.
