What began as a bilateral event between the United States and the Philippines has grown into a multilateral and multiplatform operation, bringing together like-minded partners from across the Indo-Pacific,\u201d said the U.S. Head of Delegation, Rear Adm. Todd Cimicata, Commander Logistics Western Pacific, and Task Force 73. \u201cThis development highlights the strength of our alliances and our shared commitment to peace, security, and cooperation in the maritime domain and it\u2019s never been more important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u200b\u200bWorking alongside naval vessels and maritime surveillance aircraft, \u200b\u200b\u200b\u200bspecialized teams\u200b, including \u200bdiving and explosive ordnance disposal units\u200b,\u200b\u200b \u200bwill conduct high-intensity drills focusing on anti-submarine warfare\u200b, \u200banti-\u200bsurface warfare\u200b, \u200banti-\u200bair warfare\u200b, and maritime domain awareness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSama Sama\u201d\u200b,\u200b which means \u201ctogetherness\u200b\u201d \u200bin Tagalog, reflects \u200b\u200bthe spirit of the decades-long partnership between allies in the region. Sama Sama 2024, a Philippine-U.S. bilateral exercise with invited allied and partner participants, continues to evolve in both complexity and scope into a more sophisticated and multinational environment with each iteration.<br \/>This year\u200b\u2019s\u200b \u200bexercise includes participants from \u200bAustralia, Japan, Canada, France\u200b, and\u200b Japan, representing a collective \u200bcommitment \u200bto stability and security in the Indo-Pacific region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday we witness the deepening of ties between the Philippine Navy and the U.S. Navy along with our partners from Australia, Canada, France, United Kingdom, and Japan\u201d said the Philippine Navy Head of Delegation, Rear Adm. Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta, Vice Commander of the Philippine Navy. \u201cThis exercise is a powerful investment for our collective movement and an opportunity to address regional challenges together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u200b\u200bParticipating assets\u200b from the United States\u200b include the\u200b Navy\u2019s\u200b Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Howard (DDG 83), and a P-8A Poseidon \u200bmaritime surveillance aircraft\u200b.\u200b \u200bP\u200b\u200bersonnel from \u200bU.S. 7th Fleet\u200b;\u200b Command Task Forces (CTF) 76, 75 and 72\u200b;\u200b Command, Destroyer Squadron Seven (DESRON 7)\u200b;\u200b and the Marine Corps\u2019 \u200b\u200bMarine Rotational Force\u200b \u2013 Southeast Asia\u200b (MRF-SEA)\u200b\u200b,\u200b\u200b are also taking part in Sama Sama 2024\u200b.\u200b<\/p>\n<p>From partner nations, we welcome the Philippine Navy\u2019s BRP Jose Rizal (FF 150)\u200b;\u200b BRP Waray (LC-288)\u200b;\u200b\u200b BRP Nestor Reinoso (PC 380)\u200b;\u200b\u200b a Force Reconnaissance Group, Naval Special Operations Unit 2\u200b;\u200b and supporting units \u200bthat include\u200b a medical and media team. \u200bThe Royal Canadian Navy\u200b will bring the Halifax-class frigate \u200b\u200bHMCS Vancouver (FFH 331) and a CH-148 Cyclone helicopter\u200b. A\u200b \u200bJapa\u200bn Maritime Self-Defense Force\u200bShin Maywa US-2 amphibious aircraft and Kawasaki P-1 maritime patrol aircraft\u200b \u200b\u200bare\u200b\u200b\u200b also participating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough exercises like Sama Sama, we continue to improve our interoperability and our readiness while deepening our understanding of each other\u2019s capabilities. This exercise reflects our enduring partnership\u2014one built on trust, shared values, and mutual defense,\u201d said Cimicata. \u201cTogether, we will refine our ability to respond to natural disasters, maritime threats, and humanitarian crises, while ensuring the safety and security of this vital region.<\/p>\n<p>This year marks the 30th iteration of CARAT, a multinational exercise series designed to enhance U.S. and partner navies&#8217; abilities to operate together in response to traditional and non-traditional maritime security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.<\/p>\n<p>As the U.S. Navy\u2019s forward-deployed DESRON in Southeast Asia, DESRON 7 serves as the primary tactical and operational commander of littoral combat ships rotationally deployed to Singapore\u200b.
