FORT CAVAZOS, Texas \u2014 <\/strong>Leaders of III Armored Corps and Fort Cavazos gathered alongside local law enforcement, including Police Chief Pedro Lopez Jr., Killeen Police Department, at III Armored Corps headquarters to launch the \u201cTie One On for Safety\u201d campaign Nov. 1.<\/p>\n

This national initiative, organized to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving, encourages drivers to display red ribbons on their vehicles as a symbol of their commitment to safe, responsible choices during the holiday season.<\/p>\n

Lt. Gen. Kevin D. Admiral, commanding general of III Armored Corps and Fort Cavazos, and Command Sgt. Maj. John P. McDwyer, command sergeant major of III Armored Corps and Fort Cavazos, led the event by signing a pledge to reinforce the corps\u2019 commitment to road safety. After signing, leaders and law enforcement officials moved outside to tie red ribbons on their vehicles, symbolizing their promise to make safe choices on the road.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis campaign holds a powerful message,\u201d Admiral said. \u201cWe can all make a difference, when it comes to preventing impaired driving through small actions, thoughtful choices and collective responsibility. We have the power to protect lives and make our roads safer
for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Admiral emphasized the red ribbon is more than just a decoration.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt represents a promise,\u201d he said. \u201cA promise to ourselves, to our families and to our communities that we will make responsible choices.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lopez, who has witnessed the consequences of impaired driving firsthand, echoed this sentiment.<\/p>\n

\u201cSupporting this initiative reflects my strong commitment to safeguarding the well-being of the community and taking proactive steps to prevent road tragedies,\u201d Lopez said. \u201cHaving seen the devastating impact impaired driving can have on families, I feel a deep obligation to promote safety programs that save lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both Lopez and Admiral highlighted the shared responsibility of keeping roads safe, especially during the holiday season.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery passenger, pedestrian and driver deserves to make it home safely,\u201d Admiral said. \u201cWhether it\u2019s by designating a sober driver, calling for a ride or reminding a friend not to drive impaired, these actions save lives. We all have a role to play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lopez added the campaign reinforces KPD\u2019s proactive approach to safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur involvement amplifies important safety messages and encourages responsible behavior that can prevent tragic incidents on the road,\u201d he said. \u201cThis proactive approach not only deters impaired driving but also strengthens the connection between law enforcement and the community, making Killeen a safer place for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Admiral closed the event by thanking the campaign\u2019s partners, volunteers and law enforcement officers who support the initiative.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we leave here today and step into the holiday season, let us carry the message of this campaign with us,\u201d he said. \u201cLet\u2019s make responsible decisions, encourage others to do the same and never underestimate the impact of our actions.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether, we can ensure that the joy of the season isn\u2019t overshadowed by tragedy,\u201d Admiral continued. \u201cThank you all for being here and for your commitment to safety.
