HARRISBURG, Pa. – More than 140 Soldiers with the Pennsylvania National Guard\u2019s 3622nd Sustainment Maintenance Company were honored during a Feb. 1 deployment ceremony at the Zembo Shrine.<\/p>\n

Members of the 3622nd SMC, part of the 728th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 213th Regional Support Group, are leaving their homes and loved ones for a year-long deployment to Kuwait. They will serve with Task Force Spartan, supporting U.S. Central Command\u2019s mission to increase regional security and stability.<\/p>\n

Guard leaders praised the Soldiers and their families during the ceremony for their dedication and service.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you embark on this mission, know that you carry with you the support and prayers of your loved ones, your leaders and your country,\u201d said Col. Jeremy Coleman, commander of the 213th RSG. \u201cWe are immensely proud of each and every one of you. Your skills, professionalism and resilience will undoubtedly make a significant impact wherever you go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maj. Gen. Laura McHugh, deputy adjutant general-Army, was among other Pennsylvania National Guard leaders who attended the ceremony.<\/p>\n

The 3622nd SMC specializes in maintenance operations on military vehicles, weapons, artillery and other equipment. The unit is based at Fort Indiantown Gap, but their Soldiers come from across the commonwealth and some neighboring states.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether it\u2019s ensuring the reliability of equipment, maintaining operational readiness or providing technical solutions under demanding conditions, your role cannot be overstated,\u201d said Maj. Bryson Meczywor, commander of the 728th CSSB. \u201cYou are the backbone that keeps operations running smoothly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Task Force Spartan is a unique, multi-component organization comprising the Regular Army, National Guard, and Army Reserve units.<\/p>\n

Through Operation Spartan Shield, Task Force Spartan maintains a U.S. military posture in Southwest Asia sufficient to strengthen U.S. defense relationships and build partner capacity.<\/p>\n

Units supporting OSS provide aviation, logistics, force protection and information management capabilities and facilitate theater security cooperation activities such as key leader engagements, joint exercises, conferences, symposia, humanitarian assistance and disaster response planning.<\/p>\n
