{"id":37501,"date":"2023-11-14T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-11-15T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/?p=37501"},"modified":"2023-11-15T18:43:21","modified_gmt":"2023-11-15T18:43:21","slug":"daf-dod-senior-leaders-urge-amc-to-sustain-momentum-during-annual-mobility-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/?p=37501","title":{"rendered":"DAF, DoD senior leaders urge AMC to sustain momentum during annual mobility symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><\/div>\n<p><strong class=\"article-detail-dateline\">GRAPEVINE, Texas (AFNS) &#8212; \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 55th Airlift\/Tanker Association Symposium brought together 1,500 Mobility Airmen in a single forum in Grapevine, Texas, Nov. 9 \u2013 12, along with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Department of Defense<\/strong><\/a> senior leaders and industry partners.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>During the event, themed \u201cForging Warriors, Projecting America\u2019s Lethality,\u201d\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Display\/Article\/572404\/mike-minihan\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Gen. Mike Minihan<\/strong><\/a>, commander of\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amc.af.mil\/Portals\/12\/Mobility%20Manifesto\/The%20Mobility%20Manifesto.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Air Mobility Command<\/strong><\/a>, provided his final \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/video\/903885\/amc-commander-gen-mike-minihan-delivers-ata-conference-keynote-address\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>State of the Mobility Air Forces<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d in which he honored recent MAF actions while urging Airmen to capitalize on accomplishments and triumph over existing and anticipated challenges.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<br \/><!--image-->\n    <\/p>\n<p><!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p>\u202f\u00a0<br \/>\u201cI should not be here because of [real-world] chaos, but I\u2019m freaking here,\u201d Minihan said. \u201cThat\u2019s because it ain\u2019t really chaos; this team\u2019s got it gripped! What would cripple any other Air Force \u2013 cripple \u2013 is actually our greatest strength.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The MAF\u2019s persistent global mobility presence in the past year \u2013 exemplified through <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/3468805\/amcs-largest-global-exercise-proves-success-in-indo-pacific-theater\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mobility Guardian<\/a><\/strong> execution, humanitarian response and deterrence of adversarial aggression \u2013 reaffirmed that air mobility Airmen will not shy from adversity, regardless of regional challenges. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a virtual keynote address, Secretary of the Air Force <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Display\/Article\/2730581\/secretary-of-the-air-force-frank-kendall\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Frank Kendall<\/strong><\/a> also emphasized AMC\u2019s consistent and reliable footprint around the globe over the past year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had the Ukrainian conflict and our efforts to help the Ukrainians resist Russian aggression; you\u2019ve been a major component of that,\u201d Kendall said. \u201cWe\u2019ve had now the operations in [<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.centcom.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\">CENTCOM<\/a><\/strong>]\u00a0where you\u2019re supporting our partners as they\u2019re responding to the devastating attacks that they endured.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the month of October alone, AMC flew more than 2,100 global missions and nearly 5,500 sorties, transporting more than 27,000 tons of cargo and more than 64,000 passengers.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>This sentiment of the MAF\u2019s ability to \u201cgrow from disorder,\u201d as Minihan puts it, was echoed by DoD senior leaders throughout the three-day symposium.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>\u201cYou\u2019ve remained agile to fluctuating demands, you\u2019ve embraced the thrash between the scenes, and you\u2019ve ensured the flow of aid is met at the speed of need,\u201d said U.S. Army\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ustranscom.mil\/cmd\/docs\/TCDC.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Lt. Gen. John Sullivan<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ustranscom.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>U.S. Transportation Command<\/strong><\/a>\u202fdeputy commander, during his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/video\/903884\/ustranscom-dcom-keynote-during-airlift-tanker-association-conference\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>remarks<\/strong><\/a>.<br \/><!--image-->\n    <\/p>\n<p><!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p>He highlighted the MAF\u2019s response to T\u00fcrkiye and Syria <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/3296722\/728th-ams-39th-oss-support-trkiye-earthquake-relief-deliveries\/\" target=\"_blank\">earthquakes<\/a><\/strong> within 24 hours of notification, helping to free 1,000 survivors from the rubble alongside 20 NATO allies and partners.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sullivan also highlighted ways in which the MAF anticipates the speed of need and built solutions to meet these requests. AMC\u2019s maintenance modernization team \u2013 represented by Timothy Stevens, Boyd Rinderer, Jerry Hunter and Tech. Sgt. David Shepherd \u2013 pursued advanced training environments affecting 13,000 maintenance technicians across 23 locations.<\/p>\n<p>This resulted in saving $16 million and 10,000 man-hours, cutting aircraft usage 40%, and increasing maintenance training 30%.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amc.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Display\/Article\/2316920\/jamie-newman\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Chief Master Sgt. Jamie Newman<\/strong><\/a>, AMC command chief, asserted that the Air Force\u2019s historical dominance, as well as its continued dominance, is a direct result of the Airmen who recognize embracing failure as a vital component to being victorious. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have a problem in the Air Force,\u201d Newman said. \u201cWe don\u2019t know how to lose&#8230; We\u2019re gonna have Airmen who are doing things we haven\u2019t even thought of yet.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Minihan emphasized that Airmen like this, who \u201cdrive\u201d rather than allowing themselves to \u201cbe driven,\u201d is exactly the requirement to generate irreversible momentum to match and exceed future requirements. The sense of urgency was expressed among other senior leaders in attendance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Display\/Article\/2314276\/joanne-s-bass\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force JoAnne S. Bass<\/strong><\/a>, who\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/video\/903879\/cmsaf-bass-keynote-address\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>spoke<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0on the second day of the symposium, stressed the necessity of change to defend the nation and its interests.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are going to see more change in the next four to six years than I have seen in my entire 30-year career,\u201d Bass said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s about time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kendall said Airmen can expect to see evolutions in next generation capability, contingency response, and the approach to the Air Force Force Generation <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/3440970\/airmen-to-see-changes-in-deployment-cycles-with-afforgen\/\" target=\"_blank\">process<\/a><\/strong> as it applies to the MAF. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I came into office, I was focused on modernization and we set up the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/2953552\/kendall-details-seven-operational-imperatives-how-they-forge-the-future-force\/\" target=\"_blank\">seven operational imperatives<\/a><\/strong>, as we call them, to address our most pressing operational problems,\u201d Kendall said. \u201cWe\u2019ve moved forward with that and placed a lot of things into our budget and identified additional things through exercises like Mobility Guardian.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To effectively respond to combatant commands\u2019 requirements spanning across every geographic area of responsibility, AMC\u00a0has identified command and control, connectivity, command relationships and exploding into theater as crucial focus areas following MG23.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs ready as we are, we need to be more ready,\u201d Minihan said. \u201cAs integrated as we are, we need to be more integrated. As agile as we are, we need to be more agile.
