Camp Walker, DAEGU, South Korea – The Camp Walker Evergreen Club was filled with excitement on April 24, as U.S. Army Garrison Daegu hosted its annual Volunteer Appreciation event. Nearly 50 dedicated volunteers were honored for their extraordinary contributions throughout 2024, transforming the Area IV community into a truly exceptional place to call home.<\/p>\n

The evening was a testament to the power of selfless service. Throughout the year, these individuals collectively poured 24,744 hours into supporting the garrison and its families \u2013 a staggering commitment valued at a remarkable $829,681.26, as tracked by the Volunteer Management Information System. From assisting with youth programs and community events to providing vital support at the Chapel and lending a hand at the USO, Camp Walker Library, and so much more, the breadth of their impact was immense.<\/p>\n

USAG Daegu Commander Col. Dave Henning took to the podium, his voice filled with sincere appreciation. \u201cYour efforts as volunteers are what transforms the Area IV community from a nice place to live and work into the best and most desirable assignment in Korea,\u201d he said, acknowledging the tangible difference they make in the lives of service members and their families.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He continued, addressing the room full of honorees, \u201cOn behalf of all the leaders both present and unable to attend tonight, we are deeply indebted to your selfless service and your commitment to giving back. You truly embody the spirit of our garrison motto: Make a Difference.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event wasn\u2019t just about numbers; it was about recognizing the heart and dedication behind each hour volunteered. Laughter and camaraderie were the order of the evening, as volunteers and supervisors reconnected and shared stories of their experiences, a powerful reminder of the strong community they\u2019ve built together in Daegu. It was a night to celebrate not just the hours given, but the immeasurable impact of giving back.<\/p>\n

U.S. Army Garrison Daegu manages base operations on six U.S. Army installations and 11 sites in Area IV of South Korea, stretching from Daejeon to Busan. As an enduring hub on the peninsula, it also provides support to the U.S. Navy at Fleet Activities Jinhae and the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Mujuk in Pohang.<\/p>\n

Major installations include Camps Henry, Walker, and George in Daegu; Camp Carroll in Waegwan; Pier 8 and Busan Storage Center in Busan; and other smaller outposts. Major tenant units include the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, 403rd Army Field Support Brigade and U.S. Army Material Supply Center-Korea.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
