KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany \u2013 U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz\u2019s Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) partnered with local German Polizei and U.S. Air Force Security Forces at the German-American Friendship Fest in Heidelberg May 17, to provide a unified security presence throughout the event.<\/p>\n

The annual festival, which saw over 140,000 visitors, took place on the grounds of the former Heidelberg Army Airfield, a site with historical significance to the U.S. military community before the 2013 consolidation of USAG Rheinland-Pfalz. The event celebrated German American friendship through live music and American cuisine.<\/p>\n

DES Director and Garrison Provost Marshal Lt. Col. David Castillo attributed the successful implementation of combined security patrols to strong relationships built on trust and years of cooperation.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether, we address security with the shared goal of protecting our communities,\u201d said Castillo.<\/p>\n

DES coordinates with German and U.S. Air Force security partners to synchronize regional efforts, deter crime and promote public safety, particularly during large-scale events like the annual Friendship Fest, which draws over 10,000 attendees daily.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy working together with our Polizei partners, the Air Force and community members, we promote a safer environment for everyone,\u201d added Castillo. \u201cUltimately, our priority is protecting our people.\u201d<\/p>\n
