(AFNS) &#8212; \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Air Force, in partnership with Northrop Grumman, completed a full-scale qualification test of the stage-two solid rocket motor for the LGM-35A Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile, July 20, by the 717th Test Squadron at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arnold.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/409286\/arnold-engineering-development-complex\/\" target=\"_blank\">Arnold Engineering Development Complex<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">The test marks a critical milestone in the ongoing effort to modernize the nation\u2019s land-based nuclear deterrent. Conducted in a vacuum chamber to simulate high-altitude conditions, the test provided essential data on the motor\u2019s thrust, burn profile, and steering capabilities via its thrust vector control system.\u00a0<br \/><!--image-->\n    <\/p>\n<p><!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p> \u201cThis test reflects our disciplined digital engineering approach and the continued momentum behind the Sentinel program,\u201d said <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Display\/Article\/3224991\/william-s-rogers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brig. Gen. William S. Rogers<\/a><\/strong>, Air Force program executive officer for ICBMs and director of the ICBM Systems Directorate, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.afnwc.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\">Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cWe\u2019re not just testing hardware \u2014 we\u2019re proving that our models are accurate, our development timeline is achievable and the system will be ready to deliver when called upon.\u201d\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>The stage-two motor is one of three booster segments that make up the three-stage Sentinel missile. This test is part of a series intended to qualify the stage-two design and validate predictive performance models developed in a digital engineering environment. The data gathered from this test will be used to refine design elements and reduce technical risk as the program moves toward production.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>The milestone follows the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/4112318\/sentinel-icbm-achieves-modernization-milestone-with-stage-one-solid-rocket-moto\/\" target=\"_blank\">stage-one rocket motor test conducted in March<\/a><\/strong> at Northrop Grumman\u2019s facility in Promontory, Utah. That test verified motor performance and alignment with digital models, setting the foundation for the next phase of qualification testing.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>\u201cThis isn\u2019t just about one motor test,\u201d Rogers said. \u201cIt\u2019s about building confidence \u2014 in our engineering; in our program schedule; and, most importantly, in our ability to deter aggression and defend the nation.\u201d\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><!--image--><br \/>\n    <!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p> The Sentinel program\u2019s model-based design approach allows engineers to simulate system behavior, improve accuracy in performance predictions and reduce reliance on costly hardware prototypes.
