{"id":563033,"date":"2025-07-31T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/?p=563033"},"modified":"2025-07-31T15:39:34","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T15:39:34","slug":"f-16s-relocate-to-osan-ab-as-super-squadron-test-prepares-to-enter-phase-ii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adn.monetizemail.com\/?p=563033","title":{"rendered":"F-16s relocate to Osan AB as Super Squadron test prepares to enter Phase II"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.defense.gov\/2025\/Jul\/30\/2003767772\/2000\/2000\/0\/250728-F-TU760-1015.JPG\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" \/><\/div>\n<p><strong class=\"article-detail-dateline\">OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea (AFNS) &#8212; \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting July 28, the first <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/104505\/f-16-fighting-falcon\/\" target=\"_blank\">F-16 Fighting Falcons<\/a><\/strong> relocated from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kunsan.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kunsan Air Base<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.osan.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\">Osan A<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.osan.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\">B<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>marking a major step in preparation for the continuation of the U.S. Air Force\u2019s Super Squadron Test. These F-16s are the first of many being temporarily re-assigned to Osan AB\u00a0for Phase II of the test, the temporary transfer supporting <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.7af.pacaf.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\">Seventh Air Force<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s efforts to maximize capabilities and increase combat effectiveness on the Korean Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOsan is receiving additional F-16s as part of the Air Force\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/4165213\/seventh-air-force-to-extend-super-squadron-test-for-second-year-expand-scope\/\" target=\"_blank\">Super Squadron Test Part II<\/a><\/strong><em><\/em>initiative, which is a force-optimization test designed to see if a larger, consolidated squadron can generate more combat power and operate more efficiently,\u201d said Capt. Bryce Hughes, 51st Maintenance Group Officer and Sortie Generation Flight commander.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next several months, approximately 31 F-16s and 1,000 Airmen will be re-assigned from Kunsan AB to Osan AB in time for the start of Phase II, beginning in October 2025. To complement these efforts, maintainers already assigned to Osan AB are also integrating with the 36th Fighter Generation Squadron to learn how to maintain the F-16s and help maximize combat airpower generation.<br \/><!--image-->\n    <\/p>\n<p><!--media-inline--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s truly impressive how our Airmen have been able to adjust,\u201d said Senior Master Sgt. Jason Thomas, 51st Maintenance Group Sortie Generation Flight chief. \u201cI hear a lot about concepts like<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/3528864\/air-force-introduces-mca-training-framework\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Multi-Capable Airmen<\/a><\/strong> or <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/3833809\/mission-over-function-developing-combat-effective-airmen-for-great-power-compet\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mission Ready Airmen<\/a><\/strong>, but our Airmen are truly making the concept a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Phase I of the test began in October 2024, bringing nine F-16s and 150 Airmen to the 36th Fighter Squadron and FGS at Osan AB. Phase II of the test is expected to continue through October 2026, capitalizing on data from the first phase and assessing focus areas like maintenance, manpower and logistics requirements at a larger scale.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the test, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.osan.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/404669\/51st-fighter-wing\/\" target=\"_blank\">51st Fighter Wing<\/a><\/strong> will continue to maintain Osan AB\u2019s \u201cFight Tonight\u201d defensive posture, while working to capitalize on opportunities to increase combat readiness and expand bilateral training with the Republic of Korea Air Force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re working hand-in-hand with the Wolfpack to ensure a smooth transition of both personnel and equipment in preparation for Phase II,\u201d said <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.osan.af.mil\/About-Us\/Biographies\/Display\/Article\/1879113\/ryan-b-ley\/\" target=\"_blank\">Col. Ryan Ley<\/a><\/strong>, 51st Fighter Wing commander. \u201cThe 51st Fighter Wing is leading the charge on the Super Squadron Test.
