McCullough received several briefings while visiting garrison assets, including housing units, support facilities and other infrastructure.<br \/>\n                <span class=\"caption-author\"> (Photo Credit: Momoko Shindo)<\/span><br \/>\n              <\/span><br \/>\n              <a href=\"https:\/\/api.army.mil\/e2\/c\/images\/2024\/01\/09\/92574737\/original.jpg\" title=\"View original\" target=\"_blank\">VIEW ORIGINAL<\/a><br \/>\n            <\/span><br \/>\n          <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>CAMP ZAMA, Japan \u2013 The director of U.S. Army Installation Management Command\u2013Pacific traveled here Monday as part of her first official visit to Japan since assuming the role in August.<\/p>\n<p>Brenda Lee McCullough said she was impressed with how the U.S. Army Garrison Japan team continues to enable mission success by taking care of those in the military community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbsolute awesome team,\u201d she said. \u201cAs I have been touring the installation and getting the opportunity to interact with our employees \u2026 all I am finding is a passion to do good things, pride and ownership, and people who really want to come to work and support our mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During McCullough\u2019s visit, Col. Marcus Hunter, garrison commander, escorted the director as she received several briefings while visiting garrison assets, including housing units, support facilities and other infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>She also met with Maj. Gen. McCullough received several briefings while visiting U.S. Army Garrison Japan assets, including housing units, support facilities and other infrastructure.<br \/>\n                <span class=\"caption-author\"> (Photo Credit: Momoko Shindo)<\/span><br \/>\n              <\/span><br \/>\n              <a href=\"https:\/\/api.army.mil\/e2\/c\/images\/2024\/01\/09\/8847e378\/original.jpg\" title=\"View original\" target=\"_blank\">VIEW ORIGINAL<\/a><br \/>\n            <\/span><br \/>\n          <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In her role, McCullough manages a staff that provides oversight of 11 garrisons in Alaska, Hawaii, Japan, South Korea and the Kwajalein Atoll that collectively support a population of nearly 300,000.<\/p>\n<p>While she now oversees a smaller population than in her previous role as director of IMCOM-Readiness at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, McCullough said IMCOM-Pacific presents other challenges due to its large area of responsibility and America&#8217;s posture in the Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not that it\u2019s harder, it\u2019s more complicated,\u201d she said of the position. \u201cThe breadth and depth of the portfolio across a vast amount of space and time does make it more complicated to coordinate with and across the other garrisons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCullough said she looks forward to learning more about the unique missions at each garrison as well as gaining a better understanding of their host-nation partnerships and environmental stewardship programs.<\/p>\n<p>She also plans to focus on infrastructure and ensure installations are appropriately postured using available resources to support the U.S. Army Pacific mission.<\/p>\n<p>To build talent, McCullough encourages garrisons to offer workforce development options so employees can broaden their knowledge on how other garrisons work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can do better at that by providing opportunities for our employees to do developmental assignments at other locations and then come back,\u201d she said, \u201cso that they can share what they\u2019ve learned, which allows for our garrison teams to remain fresh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked what she expects from her diverse team of professionals, McCullough said she would hope to see employees enthusiastic about their jobs and embracing the service culture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to say that you can hire skillsets all the time, but you can\u2019t hire passion,\u201d she said. \u201cAs long as folks are passionate about what they do in support of Soldiers and families, and most especially the mission, then I am extremely happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While at Camp Zama, she said she saw many employees who seemed to love what they were doing and she was excited to hear of many upcoming projects that may further enhance the quality of life here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really proud of the team here,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I\u2019m looking forward to coming back and seeing how things have improved based on the projects that they have spoken to me about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related links:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.army.mil\/RisingSun\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Army Garrison Japan news<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/home.army.mil\/japan\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">USAG Japan official website<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1 \/ 2 Show Caption + Hide Caption \u2013 Brenda Lee McCullough, director of U.S. Army Installation Management Command\u2013Pacific, shakes hands with U.S. Army Garrison Japan employees during her first official visit to Camp Zama, Japan, Jan. 8, 2024.
