#VeteranOfTheDay Army Veteran Bob Mullins

March 30, 2023: Bob Mullins

Today’s #VeteranOftheDay is Veteran Bob Mullins, who is competing in this week’s #wintersportsclinic.

Bob Mullins’ military journey began in 1984 when he joined the U.S. Army National Guard at 17. He served eight years with the 254th Transportation Battalion, supporting the Army’s transportation motto, “Nothing happens until something moves!” Frustrated with wanting to do more than just drive vehicles, he transferred into the Army Special Forces.

For the next 15 years, Mullins served with the 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), and 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne).

Special Forces units perform a variety of doctrinal missions, which include Unconventional Warfare, Foreign Internal Defense, Special Reconnaissance, Direct Action, Combating Terrorism, Counter-proliferation and Information Operations. Mullins said that these missions make Special Forces soldiers unique in the United States military because they are employed throughout the three stages of the military’s operational continuum: in peacetime, during conflict and in war.

Mullins also served in Afghanistan in 2001 to 2002, and later in Iraq from 2003 to 2004. He retired in 2006 after a motorcycle injury.

Despite his injuries, Mullins stays active by participating in adaptive sports, and has competed at the Winter Sports Clinic at Snowmass, Colorado; the Summer Sports Clinic in San Diego, California; and the National Disabled Veteran Golf Clinic in Iowa City, Iowa.

We honor his service and wish him well at this week’s events.
