POZNAN, Poland – The Polish Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki showed his support for the U.S. Army Garrison Poland and the alliance between the United States and Poland during his historic first trip to Camp Kosciuszko.
During the visit, the prime minister met with Garrison Commander, Col. Jorge Fonseca and V Corps Deputy Commanding General of Support Maj. Gen. Timothy Thombleson. He gave a speech, laid a wreath at the statue of Tadeusz Kosciuszko, and he signed the base ledger.
While addressing senior leaders, Morawiecki said “The places I visit today in Poznan are symbolic … I would like to thank our American friends for keeping their word and strengthening their presence in Poland and on the eastern flank of NATO.”
Fonseca stated “Mr. Prime Minister, thank you for visiting Camp Kosciuszko and the United States Army Garrison Poland. Our primary mission and job as a garrison is to execute base operations and deliver installation support services at our 11 subsites throughout Poland. We are the foundation of the support to our NATO and multinational mission partners, enabling them to execute their mission. We are doing this with the direct support of our Polish counterparts at these locations. “
The U.S. Army has eleven garrison sites in Poland. It is the 80th garrison in the world and the eight garrison in Europe. Camp Kosciuszko stands as a reminder of the commitment that both the American and Polish people have to the cause of safety and freedom.
