U.S. Navy Launches USNS Cody

The trip provided Lindsey an opportunity to speak with personnel about advancing Navy culture and building teams that self-assess and self-correct in order to meet future needs and current projects in the shore community.

“As we continue to focus on advancing Navy culture to develop teams that adapt, learn, and improve faster, I encourage everyone to apply those skills of assessment and performance effectiveness as you fix or elevate challenges,” he said. “These visits and the conversations with base personnel are imperative to get to the best solutions possible.”

Lindsey first visited Naval Support Activity Panama City on March 27.  His visit provided a chance to observe the deck and structural issues at the installation’s West Wharves, examine the current state of unaccompanied housing and learn about the shortage of space at the Child Development Center’s two facilities.

Additionally, VADM Lindsey engaged in interactive discussions with sailors, affixed his signature to a proclamation declaring April as Sexual Assault Awareness month, and was apprised of ongoing initiatives such as the innovative Littoral Prototyping Facility and the cutting-edge RDT&E workspace both managed by the NSA Panama City Public Works Department.

The visit to Naval Air Station Whiting Field on March 28 enabled discussions for on-going successes in community-military partnering, pioneering projects that are helping shape aviation training and quality of life efforts.

While on the installation Lindsey toured the Child Development Center, Fitness Center, the newly built Airdales Recreation Center and the Fixed Wing Operations Center. Lindsey was able to meet with Sailors, Student Naval Aviators, instructor pilots and civilian personnel to discuss challenges, wins and innovative ideas that will continue to push NAS Whiting Field into the future.

Following the installation tours, he praised the personnel for their achievements and their continued efforts toward improving base services.

“Seeing how the service members and civilian employees work hard every day to complete the mission is gratifying,” Lindsey stated.  “The installations’ dedication to the fleet, the fighter and the family are unparalleled.”
