Severe Weather Around Vicenza

(4:57 p.m. May 21)

As the rain has eased this afternoon, the level of the Bacchiglione river has decreased. Pay attention to the Retrone river which is still growing but very slowly. Continue to keep cars and other items out of low lying areas and basements. The garrison is not reporting any delays or closures at this time.

(6:01 p.m. May 20) There is a potential for flooding in the Vicenza area forecasted for tonight and continuing into the next couple of days. Personnel are advised to avoid parking in low lying areas (i.e. underground parking) and to remove items in basements. Vehicle traffic may be affected with closures of roads and bridges within the area. Any updates will be posted on The Garrison Outlook at https://www.army.mil/italy

According to the City of Vicenza a consistent rise in the level of Bacchiglione River is expected. Specific roads and areas that could be affected include these in Vicenza:

  • The areas near Retrone (industrial zone, via Fusinato, Santi Apostoli), the Stadium and the streets Sansigoli and Cappellari.

If necessary, there are sandbag distribution points at these locations:

  • viale Trissino (crossroads with via Del Grande – Stadio car park)
  • contra Santi Apostoli
  • viale Fusinato (crossroads with Gogna road)
  • piazza Matteotti (in front of the youth hostel)
  • Bridge of Angels (in Piazza XX Settembre)
  • viale Sant’Agostino at the intersection with via Valdorsa
  • near the Debba church
  • near the church of San Pietro Intrigogna
