GARMISCH, Germany — The Bavarian Red Cross recently administered first aid training to Local National employees of U.S. Army Garrison Garmisch.
The Garmisch Community Safety Manager, Andreas Tuerk, arranged and coordinated four classes over the course of four weeks to provide several opportunities to attend a beginner or refresher class. Forty-two employees attended this year’s training classes.
Classes were provided by the Bavarian Red Cross and held in German. Participants attending the courses work for the garrison, Defense Commissary Agency, the Exchange, George C. Marshall Center, 405th Logistics Readiness Center and the NATO school in Oberammergau.
The class prepared participants on how to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies involving adults.
Participants were trained to respond to real-world emergencies. Knowing what to do in an emergency can save a life, a limb, or prevent a condition from getting worse.
During hands-on training, each employee had a chance to practice several emergency situations such as rescuing an unconscious patient from a car, moving someone into the lateral recumbent position, giving CPR or applying a simple bandage.
Each participant will receive a training certificate from the Bavarian Red Cross. The classes are available every two years and training is centrally funded by the Installation Management Command-Europe’s Safety Office.
