DAF announces release of inaugural Stories of Service

WASHINGTON (AFNS) —

The Department of the Air Force released the first story in an ongoing series featuring Airmen and Guardian stories from around the force.

The series, Stories of Service, aims to tell compelling and inspirational stories that focus not only on heroism and professional aspects of service members’ careers but also on how their serving has influenced their lives.

“Our Airmen and Guardians have so many amazing stories, ranging from what they do for our country to powerful examples of resilience and overcoming all odds,” said Jerry Renne, Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs director. “We want to share these inspirational narratives with the public on a regular basis to hopefully inspire people to connect with Airmen and Guardians and better understand why they serve.”

The inaugural story features Senior Airman Kenia Sinclair, a religious affairs Airman assigned to the 628th Air Base Wing Chapel at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina. Born and raised in Jamaica, at the age of 10, she and her twin sister faced homelessness after a series of personal tragedies.

The twins started running to cope with the extreme hardships they faced at a young age. During high school, they were recruited to run at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. After attending college, Sinclair went on to compete in four Olympics, seven world championships and three commonwealth championships.

In 2020, she pursued another dream and joined the Air Force as a way of giving back to the country that paved the way for her success.

Sinclair’s story is one of many of courage, sacrifice and the pursuit of something greater than themselves that will be featured in the series.

Stories of Service will be released twice a month on the Air Force, Space Force and DVIDS websites.
