Sailors took to the skies and to the sea during a charity racing event — Hydros for Heroes — near Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Wash.
Hydros for Heroes highlights law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical services, military, health care professionals and teachers.
During the event, sailors demonstrated their search and rescue capabilities by conducting a simulated ocean rescue.
The sailors are assigned to the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Search and Rescue Squadron and are trained in both overwater and mountain rescue.
They are the first responders for aircraft and personnel stationed at the installation, and also respond to anyone in danger.
