USAG Ansbach to host historic film screening honoring 80 years of German-American friendship

ANSBACH, Germany — U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach invites the community to a special screening of a powerful historical documentary at the Bismarck Movie Theater April 25 at 1 p.m., commemorating 80 years of German-American partnership and 250 years of U.S. Army service.

The feature event includes a free showing of a dramatic film — titled “and now show that you are one people!” — produced by German filmmaker Thilo Pohle, who will attend in person to offer remarks and answer questions following the screening.

The movie, created in partnership with the Rothenburg Doku group and members of the USAG Ansbach community, recounts the harrowing and heroic story of how an American peace delegation saved the medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber from destruction on April 16, 1945.

Drawing on U.S. archival film footage, first-hand accounts from American Soldiers and German civilians, and documentation from the Library of Congress and U.S. Army archives, the film captures one of the earliest and most meaningful examples of German-American cooperation at the end of World War II.

The event is open to the entire USAG Ansbach community, and is a professional development opportunity for the workforce. While the movie is free, AAFES will sell concessions during the showing.

This screening is part of a series of events planned throughout 2025 to honor the Army’s proud legacy and the enduring friendship between U.S. forces and the people of Ansbach and surrounding communities.
