Borne the Battle #281 National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic empowers Veterans

The National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic is a transformative event, designed to empower disabled Veterans by providing a supportive environment to explore new hobbies and build friendships. Launched 30 years ago in Riverside, Iowa, this adaptive golf program has expanded into a national initiative that embraces Veterans with various disabilities.

Each year, approximately 200 Veterans participate in the clinic, receiving customized golf lessons from professional PGA and LPGA instructors, prosthetic assistance and adaptive golf equipment. The primary objective is to ensure that golf is accessible and enjoyable for all Veterans, regardless of their abilities or disabilities.

In addition to golf, the Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic offers alternative activities, such as cycling, kayaking, rock/wall climbing, disc golf, bowling, air rifle, tai chi and yoga. These activities promote wellness, health and longevity, helping Veterans discover new passions and to maintain an active lifestyle. Many attendees apply their newfound enthusiasm and skills to organizing and hosting adaptive therapy events for fellow disabled Veterans in their local communities. The Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic team collaborates with local VA clinics to supply adaptive equipment for Veterans at home, fostering a supportive network.

Volunteers play a pivotal role in the event, ensuring each Veteran receives personalized attention during their golf experience. Interested Veterans and volunteers can apply through the official website. Applications are open until early May, with the next application cycle beginning in January 2024.

Supported by DAV and other sponsors, the Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic helps Veterans overcome challenges and explore new possibilities. To learn more about this adaptive golf program or become a sponsor, visit the website and contribute to empowering disabled Veterans through golf.
