VICENZA, Italy — Drinking water at U.S. Army Garrison Italy’s Vicenza installations is fully compliant with international standards, according to the Directorate of Public Works, which recently released its annual Drinking Water Consumer Confidence Report.

“There were no exceedances of water quality parameters at any Vicenza Military Community sampling locations,” said Melissa Markell, environmental protection specialist with DPW’s Environmental Division. “Our team works year-round to ensure the water our community relies on meets the most protective standards.”

Caserma Ederle and Villaggio produce their own water from Army-owned deep groundwater wells, which is treated and chlorinated before distribution. Caserma Del Din and Caserma Miotto get water from municipal providers in Vicenza and Longare. DPW adds chlorination to purchased water before it reaches on-post taps.

While trace contaminants are common in all drinking water, the report confirms no regulatory exceedances,” Markell said. Residents can help maintain water quality by flushing cold taps each morning, using cold water for cooking, cleaning faucet aerators twice a year, and replacing water filters regularly.

“Our goal is to provide reliable water and peace of mind,” Markell said. “We’re proud of the systems in place and the partnerships that help us provide water meeting drinking quality standards.”
